It’s late in the evening – significantly later than we usually post news here – but I’ve been dealing with beginning of the month insanity. So, sorry this is kind of late but hey I’m making up for it with a cool image that I managed to squeeze out of lead developer Vince (and I gotta say, it was almost like trying to squeeze milk from a stone, tch). This is one of many “sneak peeks” and we’re going to be releasing them to you in a series of Wednesday promos. Keep checking back to see more – you might even recognize one or two! What better way to pass the middle-of-the-week day, right?
Unlike a majority of the development team, I’m not usually a fan of history. To be totally honest, I’m not sure if it’s just because I can’t follow them or it’s just not my thing – but it’s a big part of the universe of Iron Grip.
The Kathos continent (where most of the games so far take place) is torn apart by wars, be it with other countries or within themselves. Civil War is one of the most common aspects of the game. Iron Grip draws its inspiration from a lot of historical events (the Napoleon era is a particularly strong influence) and puts a unique spin on everything – and, despite the fact that I'm usually bored by the subject, there's actually some discussion on our forums that I'm enjoying reading which center on exactly that: the organization of the militaries in Iron Grip and what major historical events may have/could in the future serve as inspiration.
We’ve got a pretty fun discussion like this on our forums, started by user BreakerChase, called Military Doctrine. I felt like sharing it, since I’ve been enjoying reading the posts. Here's a snippet:
We saw how Rahmos mechanized a majority of their military with sub-services like the Steel Legion and the usage of small airships for vertical envelopment. -- BreakerChase
Another week of beta has passed and we're still accepting users in waves. If you haven't gotten an invite yet, all I can say is be patient. Anyway, this weekend we also released an update to the live servers and the leaderboards are looking a lot cleaner in result. Our devs have tried to streamline them into a more competitive ranking system, and I think it works. However, what really matters is what the users think--so what do you think?
I'm going to end this post with a little bit of a challenge. Email monique@isotx.com with one sentence explaining why you should be in the Iron Grip: Marauders beta if you aren't already and I'll pick my favorite response or two. The winner(s) will get access by Wednesday night. I have those kind of superpowers as a community manager--word on the streets is that I can also fly.
